The popular definition of an LED display in advertising media is a screen that USES a light-emitting diode (LED) to display information. Using light emitting diodes (leds) to emit light independently is in contrast to using leds as backlight. The LED displays we usually see on TVS, computers and mobile phones can't actually be LED displays, but can only be called LCD displays using LED as backlight.
